Schleich - Dunkleosteus Figure - 14575
The dunkleosteus lived 13 to 15 million years before the first dinosaurs. It was a courageous hunter, capable of quickly biting its prey and devouring large sharks, or even members of its own species, if it did not find other prey. Often, fossils of half-digested fish were found with its skeleton. This is why scientists believe that the placoderm could not chew well and swallowed its prey in large chunks. It owes its name to the paleontologist David Dunkle. In Greek, the name "osteos" means "bone".
