  5. EUR - European Mega Drive Games

Marketed from 1990 in Europe, the Mega Drive had to deal with a fragmented market between different countries and languages. One little-known feature: European games ran at 50Hz instead of 60Hz for the Japanese and American versions, slowing them down by about 17%. Some titles like Sonic the Hedgehog were specifically optimized to compensate for this difference. Europe also had its own notable exclusives: Asterix and the Great Rescue, produced by Sega France, or the extremely rare Mega Games 6 Vol. 1, a compilation distributed only in Australia and in small quantities in Europe. The European boxes, with their hard plastic design, are now particularly prized for their robustness compared to the American cardboard versions.
