In Brazil, the Mega Drive had a unique history thanks to Tectoy, which continued its production until 2017, an absolute record. The Brazilian company created exclusive versions such as a "Mega Drive Portable" portable edition and even a model with built-in karaoke. Several games were specifically adapted for the Brazilian market, such as "Mônica", based on a famous local comic strip. A curiosity: Tectoy translated many games into Portuguese, including Phantasy Star, making Brazil the only country to have a localized version of this cult RPG.
