August 1944. The German troops are pushed back towards Germany. The bellies are empty, the bodies are tired. The long columns of soldiers are mercilessly massacred by the Soviet air force masters of the skies. The policy of the scorched earth has had no other effect than to multiply the hatred of the enemy. February 1945. In a last attempt to stop the Russians, the Germans blow up the bridges on the Oder, only 90 km from Berlin. The fanaticism of the SS pushes the people to the ultimate sacrifice: the children are recruited into the fighting troops! Young Kessler has long since lost all illusion about the fate of Germany. The soldiers are faced with a difficult choice: fight the Bolsheviks who threaten Berlin and find certain death there, or try to reach the western front in the hope of surrendering to the Anglo-Americans.
