Schleich - Baby Giraffe Figurine - 14751
Giraffe calves grow up together with their peers in a kind of nursery school. A female giraffe in the group is their "educator" and takes care of them while the other mothers go in search of food. When predators approach, she immediately alerts the others. The mothers then take up a defensive position in front of their babies and strike the aggressors with their hooves. At around four months, the little ones start to tear leaves off the trees to eat, but continue to suckle from their mother until nine months.
