"Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" is a science fiction series that aired on NBC starting in 1979. It follows the adventures of Buck Rogers, a NASA astronaut who was accidentally frozen in 1987 during a space mission and wakes up in 2491. He discovers an Earth that has been rebuilt after a nuclear holocaust, centered around New Chicago. The series is inspired by the Buck Rogers character created by Philip Francis Nowlan in 1928 for a serial novel.
The main characters include Buck Rogers (Gil Gerard), Colonel Wilma Deering (Erin Gray), Dr. Elias Huer, as well as the intelligent computer Dr. Theopolis and the robot Twiki. In the pilot episode, Buck, initially suspected of espionage, proves his innocence by foiling an attempted invasion by the Draconians. The series, although canceled after two seasons, left its mark on its era. The pilot film was a notable box office success, leading to the creation of the television series and generating numerous spin-offs.
