At the time of the release of Dragon Ball Z 2 (known as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 in the West), V-Jump magazine announced its limited edition special version of the game called Dragon Ball Z 2 V (the "V" standing for V-Jump). V-Jump announced that only 2,000 readers would receive the game. In addition to retaining the same bonuses as the Japanese version of the game (which are available on the Gamecube version for us), one of the features of this special edition that has caused the most ink to flow is the ability to use Cooler as an alternate costume for Frieza (as well as Metal Cooler as an alternate costume for Mecha Frieza). This possibility was presented in the magazine and even on the cover of the game, where a purple silhouette of Cooler appears next to the "D" of the logo instead of Vegetto in Dragon Ball Z 2. The introduction of a movie character in the game served as a precedent for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3.
One of the most interesting features of the game is the ability to complete the game 100% from the start. All capsules, all characters and all stages are unlocked from the start.
Differences from Dragon Ball Z 2:
- Frieza (in his alternate Cooler costume) fighting Majin Cell;
- The bonuses added to the original Japanese version (or the Gamecube version of Budokai 2) are present, such as: the bonus costumes (Goku with his damaged clothes, Piccolo with his cape and turban) as well as the costumes from the Story mode (like Cell and Frieza in Majin), The Z and Z2 difficulty modes and the 10th Level of the Story mode are available in this version;
- Great Saiyaman can finally equip the Ki Control, Mixed Blood and Saiyan Legacy support capsules;
- Frieza has two new alternate costumes: Majin Frieza and Cooler;
- Cell has Majin Cell available for use as an alternative skin;
- The Tenka Ichi Budokai arena has the V-Jump logo on the ground;
- The title screen is slightly different, with a purple silhouette of Cooler in the logo;
- It is impossible to save;
- Kreezer is automatically unlocked at the start of the game;
- The game starts at 100%, with all capsules and all characters unlocked.
