Before setting out on an adventure, create your own hero: choose their face, hair, and even their clothes! As the story progresses, your hero becomes stronger, smarter, and more powerful, and you can even customize the characters who join their team! Discover over 1,000 items (clothes, armor, weapons, and various objects) to customize the appearance and special powers of your heroes to make them unique. You can also change your character's class at any time by choosing from a palette of vocations that affect their skills and strengths in the game. You begin your adventure as a guardian of a town and your mission is to recover the fruits of a sacred tree that has the power to grant wishes. Explore the world, overcome fearsome monsters, and get caught up in an incredible story. During your journey, you will face powerful opponents in intense battles and meet many colorful characters. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies can be shared with others: up to four players can team up via local wireless network and battle monsters and dungeons together with their own characters. You can also leave your game on in your backpack, pocket, or handbag and interact with other players through the Random Encounters mode. Information about your characters is automatically transmitted wirelessly to nearby players if their game is also in Random Encounters mode. You can also exchange custom messages or treasure maps that will help you find unique items! There are many side quests to discover. Some are only available by progressing in the game, while others can be downloaded for free and will offer additional hours of gameplay for all virtual adventurers, whether alone or with others. Some downloadable quests will follow the main story, while others will be independent missions.
