In Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, you can play stages wherever and whenever you want.

A wealth of possibilities await you right from the start, with 100 stages created by Nintendo. These stages also contain additional challenges, such as collecting all the coins or defeating all the enemies before reaching the flag. By completing these challenges, you will earn medals.

Just like Super Mario Maker on Wii U, this game allows players to freely create their own Super Mario stages. It includes all the tools and stage elements from the Wii U version, except for the ? mushroom and Mario cosplays.

But if stage creation seems a bit complicated to you, don't worry: Mashiko and Yamamura will guide you through interactive tutorials. You'll quickly gain confidence to create stages in no time!

While the Wii U version aimed to create a large global community, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS aims to bring together nearby players and form smaller communities. Rather than uploading stages online, the stages you create can be shared locally via wireless connection and StreetPass.

You can also share unfinished stages locally, this way, you can create stages together. These stages will be marked with a special icon to show that you have contributed to them.

You can also go online* to play stages created with the Wii U version of the game. You won't be able to search for them by ID, but you'll be able to enjoy the 100 Mario Challenge and Recommendations as well. Not all stages created with the Wii U version will be available, but you'll still have a very rich content.
