The Awalé Astérix game box contains a support, called "mancala", in the shape of a sarcophagus reminiscent of the one in which Amonbofis and his henchman imprisoned the architect Numérobis in the album Astérix and Cléopâtre, and containing 12 cells in which small mummies serving as pawns are sown.
Originally from Africa, awalé is a two-player strategy game. The goal is to harvest as many seeds as possible by taking as many as possible from your opponent. However, it is not a question of "starving" the opponent by depriving them of all their seeds, but rather of leaving them with enough resources to continue the game. A kind of fair play game before its time, in short!
