#50 in THE JAMES BOND CAR COLLECTION (UK)
The MP Lafer is an automobile built in Brazil by Lafer SA in 1974. [1] Created by Percival Lafer, a furniture manufacturer, the MP Lafer is a two-seat fiberglass roadster that took its styling cues from classic British sports cars of the 1940s and early 1950s, with a strong resemblance to the MG T series and Morgan Plus 4. Unlike these, its chassis, engine, manual gearbox, steering, and suspension came from the Volkswagen Beetle (known as the Fusca in Brazil). Although the stock VW Type 1 four-cylinder is a bit underpowered, the MP Lafer became a sought-after car in its time. Approximately 4,300 units were built during the 16-year production period of the MP Lafer. The Lafer was available in two models - the classic MP and the more modern TI, introduced in March 1984. Around 1,000 were exported, mostly to Europe but some to the United States.
