#77 in THE JAMES BOND CAR COLLECTION (UK)
The Checker Marathon is an automobile produced by Checker Motors Corporation in Kalamazoo (Michigan), between 1961 and 1982. It was marketed as a passenger car but was mainly intended for taxi fleets. For decades, Checker was the taxi of choice for New York and many other American cities. The size of the car (seats for multiple passengers), the robust construction, the lack of annual modifications (simplifying parts management), and the bolted rear panels all contributed to the ubiquity of the Marathon on the streets of Manhattan. For example, almost all films shot in New York in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s will feature Checker Marathons.
