The red truck - "The Black Island" (1984)
On the train he took to Ostend to go to England via Dover, Tintin falls victim to a plot as a result of which the Dupondt arrest him. Having managed to remove his handcuffs with the complicity of Snowy, the young man causes the train to stop, leaves it immediately and, after having escaped the two policemen who have gone after him, finds himself on board a truck whose driver is heading towards the coast...
THE CAR THAT INSPIRED HERGÉ:
Brand: Hanomag
Model: AL 28
Year: late 1950s
Power: 70 HP
Top speed: 75 km/h
FAITHFUL DETAILS:
Off-road: Thanks to this truck, Tintin manages to board the boat for England at the last minute. It is a utility truck produced under the AL-28 designation by the manufacturer Hanomag from 1950. Equipped with a 70 HP diesel engine and sometimes four-wheel drive, the model represented dates from the early 1960s.
In maritime Flanders: When the truck appears, Tintin is walking along one of those roads bordered, in maritime Flanders, by tall trees bent under the effect of the wind. Already present in the previous versions of The Black Island, these trees may have been drawn this time by Bob De Moor, Hergé's main collaborator.
History: Hanomag has existed since 1835 and started with small steam engines and then locomotives. In the 1920s, it saw its future in economical car models. It continued with tractors in the 1930s and produced military vehicles during the war. It joined Daimler Benz in 1969 for trucks and finally Komatsu in 1990.
