Kriss is still the hostage of the Valkyries and their queen, Freyja. She will decide whether the prisoner deserves the fate of the valiant warriors who died in battle, that is to say the right to eternal life, or if she will forever wander the icy mists of Niflheim... Kriss must recount the story of her life until her meeting with Thorgal. Freyja already knows the rest, which, as we know, pleads little in favor of the heroine. This is the only chance for the latter to benefit from a form of clemency... Will Kriss manage to soften the queen? Her childhood was dark and cruel but her revenge on her village will be even more terrible...
Kriss is still the hostage of the Valkyries and Freyja, their "queen". Before deciding whether Kriss deserves the fate of the valiant warriors who died in battle (Odin's Palace and eternal life) or if she deserves to burn forever in the flames of Niflheim, Freyja wants to hear, from Kriss's own mouth, the end of the story of her life until she met Thorgal (she already knows the rest... which pleads little in favor of Kriss). This is her only chance to benefit from a form of clemency...
Kriss therefore continues the story begun in volume 1. How did she grow up until her adolescence and entry into the adult world? How did she end up dealing with the Caledonian worshippers of the goddess Kerridwen (see the album The Archers)? Why did she steal the mysterious Stone of Blood from them (see The Archers, again) just before meeting Thorgal and finding Pied d'Arbre?
All the answers to these questions are given at the end of this album. As well as Freyja's sentence! Kriss's return to the world of men does not look simple...
