A word on The Lord of the Rings: this three-volume novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien was published in 1954 and laid the foundations of modern Heroic Fantasy. It takes place, like other works by Tolkien, in Middle-earth. It follows the adventures of Frodo, a hobbit who has the heavy task of destroying a malevolent ring by throwing it into the volcano where it was forged. Unfortunately, Sauron, the owner of the ring, also seeks to recover it to regain his powers and allow his gigantic army to conquer the world. A community composed of three other hobbits, two men, a dwarf, an elf and a Valar wizard accompanies Frodo, but the ring arouses covetousness... This work will experience a second youth with a popular film adaptation between 2001 and 2003, directed by Peter Jackson.
