Schleich - Hippopotamus - 14814
Although they are vegetarians, hippopotamuses are considered the most savage animals in Africa due to their aggressive nature. On land, they can reach an impressive speed of up to more than 5 kilometers per hour. They influence the course of rivers and marshes because they use the same paths every day and divert the water into these ditches. Hippopotamuses remain in the water during the day and graze in the evening. In just five hours, a hippopotamus can ingest more than 7 kilos of food! In the water, the males watch over their territory, but on land, there are no fights. Hippopotamuses cannot swim, but they fight, sleep, and reproduce in the water. They live in herds of about thirty animals. They are more than five meters long and weigh two tons. Hippopotamuses are among the largest terrestrial mammals. In addition, they live quite a long time - often up to forty years.
