The Ghosts of the Louvre
The Louvre Museum Editions
In the time of twenty-two portraits, Enki Bilal revisits the Louvre... He imagines 22 destinies of women, men or children whose lives have been disrupted by a work. 22 portraits for 5000 years of creation. A masterful work that will be presented in an exceptional exhibition within the Louvre Museum, from December 19 to March 18, 2013.
22 ghosts. 22 among dozens of others, hundreds, who knows? These ghosts inhabit the Louvre. They roam, float, near certain works, painted, sculpted, in the perspective of the rooms sometimes... Their destiny led them there, trapped in a way for eternity.
Enki Bilal reincarnates them by painting them, by telling their lives, as an apocryphal biographer. From the oldest, Ahmôsé Chepseset born in 1891 BC, to the most recent, Markus Dudke, who died in 1947... A gap of 3838 years across the centuries.
