The Six Companions spend the summer in the Auvergne, on the edge of the artificial lake of Maubrac. But as soon as they arrive, they discover that it has been drained. At first disappointed, they soon rejoice in being able to explore the ruins of the old submerged village. Except that they are not the only ones interested in these remains... Gambadou, a mysterious and disabled outcast, also roams there often. When the Six Companions question him, the man explains that his uncle, before dying, had hidden gold ingots at his place. The flooding of his house has condemned Gambadou to live in poverty. Since the draining of the lake, only one clue would allow him to discover the hiding place: a coded message, written by his uncle's hand...
